Door Painting Services in Altrincham
We handle every type of door in homes across Altrincham, Trafford, and south Manchester — from original Victorian panelled doors in Bowdon to modern flush doors in Sale. Every door job includes frames and architraves on both sides.
Interior Panelled Doors
Bowdon and Hale properties typically have four- or six-panel doors with original mouldings. These need hand painting to get into each groove and edge cleanly — a roller alone leaves paint pooling in the recesses.
Doors are painted panel by panel, raised and flat sections in sequence. Satinwood or eggshell is used depending on your preference.
Flush Doors
Modern semis in Sale and Timperley often have smooth flush doors. Every imperfection shows on a flat surface, so preparation matters more than on a panelled door.
Surfaces are filled and sanded before priming. Spraying gives a factory-smooth finish where brushwork would show marks.
Door Frames and Architraves
Frames and architraves are the frame around the picture. Scruffy frames undo good wall painting immediately.
Frames and architraves are painted as part of every door job. See our wood painting page for broader interior woodwork projects.
Wardrobe and Built-in Doors
Fitted wardrobes and alcove cupboards in Edwardian and Victorian properties are often original joinery worth preserving. Timber condition is assessed and the right primer chosen before coating.
MDF and modern flat-panel wardrobe doors get a different approach — edges need sealing first to prevent porous ends absorbing paint unevenly.
Fire Doors
Fire doors are heavier and are not always removable. They are painted in place using professional techniques that achieve a good finish without compromising integrity or seals.

We check all doors close properly before we leave. Properly painted doors lift a room more than most people expect.

Our Door Painting Process
1. Site Visit
Your decorator inspects every door and frame, noting timber type, existing finish, and condition. Doors needing priming from bare timber versus those needing a light sand and recoat are identified.
2. Preparation
Doors are sanded, filled, and cleaned. Old yellowed gloss gets abraded and knots in pine doors are sealed to stop resin bleeding through the finish coat.
3. Priming
Each door gets the right primer for its material and condition. Bare timber, MDF, and previously painted surfaces each need a different approach at this stage.
4. Paint Application
Two coats of satinwood or eggshell. Panels painted first, then cross-members, then stiles. Frames and architraves painted to match.
5. Final Inspection
We check coverage in good light and touch up any thin areas. Hardware is cleaned of any overspray and all doors are checked to close properly before we leave.
Door Painting Costs in Altrincham
A single interior door typically costs £80 to £150, including frame and architrave on both sides. Condition, timber type, and finish option all affect the price. Call 0161 570 0342 for a precise quote.

Number of Doors
Whole-house jobs with eight or more doors are priced more efficiently than single-door one-offs. The more doors, the lower the cost per door.
Door Type
Six-panel period doors take longer than flat flush doors. Wardrobe doors depend on size and number of panels.
Door Condition
Doors with heavy paint build-up, surface damage, or bare patches need more preparation time. Your decorator assesses condition on the site visit and prices accordingly.
Typical Prices
Single flush door with frame: £80 to £110. Six-panel period door with frame: £120 to £160.
Whole-house door refresh — 8 doors in a Hale or Sale semi: £800 to £1,400.
